Our Curriculum

Our Lady of La Vang uses the Australian Curriculum and the Crossways Framework (Religious Education) in delivering a highly personalised curriculum, with a focus on the general capabilities in the following key learning areas:

  • Religious Education
  • Mathematics
  • English
  • Science
  • Humanities & Social Sciences
  • Technologies
  • Health and Physical Education
  • The Arts

Students in our Senior Cluster work towards a Modified SACE.

Our personalised approach to your child’s learning draws on contemporary educational research to meet the individual needs of students and aligns with the Catholic Education’s Living, Learning, Leading Framework. We work collaboratively with parents, caregivers and external professionals to develop meaningful learning that prepares your child for the future.

Assessments and reporting

Written reports are provided for students twice a year. Teachers report against the Australian Curriculum subjects based on the learning experiences within their classroom, reflecting on the goals set with parents and carers during Personal Plan for Learning (PPL) meetings.

We use the Abilities Based Learning and Education Support (ABLES) assessment tool to assess students’ level then plan intentionally for students at their current level and to measure and monitor student learning progress. This data, along with other curriculum data is shared with parents, caregivers and external professionals to develop a PPL.

La Vang Fresh Foods

Our mini store is designed to replicate the experience of a real Woolworths supermarket. Our setup includes baskets for fresh produce, grocery shelves, ticketing, signage, and Woolworths-branded uniforms for students to wear, creating a fully immersive environment. Equipped with operational Fujitsu registers, students get hands-on experience scanning items and processing sales transactions.

We are also fortunate to have support from Woolworths team members from the nearby Fulham Gardens store. They have been instrumental in helping students stock shelves and offering register training, providing an invaluable experience for our students.

Transition

Transition to school:

Our Lady of La Vang runs a transition program that aims to make the transition into our school as smooth and seamless as possible for all concerned. The first step of this process begins with a teacher visiting the student at their current pre-school or school. The teacher spends time observing and getting to know the student. A meeting with the current teacher is also set up during this visit where information about the student is shared. Parents/carers may be present throughout the course of the visit. A time is then set up for the student to visit Our Lady of La Vang with a parent/carer for a short period of time.  The next step is for the student to then visit by themselves, with the length of time spent at school increasing. The amount of visits required is very individualised depending on each student’s needs. This is negotiated between teaching staff and parents/carers.

Transition into post school options:

The Senior Cluster program focuses on preparing our students for life after school through engagement with Independent Living Skills, cooking, SACE Modified, and the Work Experience Program for students aged sixteen years and older. When students graduate from Our Lady of La Vang, there are a variety of options available to them in the community. While this can be an exciting time for students and their families, it can also be daunting and challenging. Each year Our Lady of La Vang hosts a NDIS & Post School Expo where a variety of presenters from a range of organisations can share with families their programs and opportunities for children and young adults with a disability.
